Driving lessons on the Isle of Dogs

E14

The Island is a loop with one road in and out for most of it — Westferry Road round the west side, Manchester Road down the east — so route planning matters here more than almost anywhere else in Docklands. We teach the loop itself, the roundabouts feeding Canary Wharf's basement car parks, and the calmer streets around Millwall Park and Island Gardens where most first lessons start.

What learning to drive in Isle of Dogs is really like

One road round the Island, both ways

Westferry Road and Manchester Road between them form the loop that almost every Island journey uses. We teach it early — the mini-roundabouts, the Millwall Dock bridges that occasionally lift, and the turns into Canary Wharf's basement car parks — so it stops feeling like a maze by your second or third lesson.

Quiet streets to start on

Millwall Park and the residential grid around Seyssel Street and Stebondale Street are calm enough for a genuine first lesson — clutch control, mirrors, moving off — before Westferry Road's roundabouts and Canary Wharf traffic enter the picture.

Canary Wharf without the panic

Basement car park entrances, taxi ranks and one-way sections around the Wharf catch out drivers who've never practised them. We build up to it gradually rather than dropping you in on day one.

Isle of Dogs driving lessons — common questions

Yes — we teach across the Island, including Canary Wharf, Millwall, Cubitt Town, Mudchute and Island Gardens. A driving instructor working here needs to be at ease with narrow riverside streets, heavy pedestrian traffic and the Blackwall Tunnel approaches, and lessons are planned around exactly that.

Learning right on the edge of Isle of Dogs? You may want driving lessons in Docklands or driving lessons in Tower Hamlets instead.
