Refresher lessons for rusty and nervous drivers

You passed — the skill is in there. Refresher lessons are for full licence holders who haven't driven in years, lost confidence after a scare, or hold a licence from abroad and find London traffic a different sport. There's no syllabus to restart; we work only on what you actually need, and if you'd rather practise in your own car, we can do that too.

Best for: Full licence holders returning to driving, nervous drivers, and drivers new to London.

What's included

Everything you get

  • Book only the hours you need — no course commitment
  • Can be taught in your own car as well as ours
  • No judgement — nerves after a break or an accident are completely normal
  • Ideal preparation for driving in central and East London traffic

How it works

Your journey, step by step

  1. 1
    A gentle restart

A relaxed first drive to find out what's rusty and what never left you.

  2. 2
    Your problem list

Junctions and roundabouts, dual carriageways and motorways, city and night driving, all-weather conditions, reversing and parking — we cover the ones that worry you, skip the ones that don't.

  3. 3
    Independence again

Longer unprompted drives — anticipation, awareness and planning — until driving feels like yours again.

From £32.50/hr
£32.50/hr on a 2-hour lesson, or from £33/hr on a block booking.

Who refresher lessons are for

Three groups, mostly. Drivers who passed years ago and never really drove — the licence went in a drawer, and now there's a reason to use it. Drivers who had a knock or a near-miss and found their confidence didn't come back on its own. And licence holders from abroad who can drive perfectly well, but find London a different sport: bus lanes, box junctions, cyclists on both sides and roundabouts that assume you already know the convention.

None of that is unusual, and none of it needs explaining apologetically. There's no syllabus to restart and no course to commit to — you book the hours you need, and we work on the things that actually worry you rather than running you through a beginner's curriculum you finished years ago.

Your own car or ours

Both work. Our car is dual-controlled, which some drivers want for the first session or two — knowing someone can intervene takes the edge off a nervous restart. Others would rather get straight into the car they'll actually be driving, because that's where the confidence needs to end up, and the pedals and mirrors are already familiar.

If we teach in your car, it needs to be taxed, insured and MOT'd, with insurance that covers the lesson — worth a quick call to your insurer, as policies differ on tuition by a third party. Tell us which you'd prefer when you book; plenty of pupils start in ours and switch to their own partway through.

How many refresher lessons will I need?

Usually far fewer than people expect. The skill genuinely is still there — motor memory for clutch, steering and mirror work survives long breaks better than most drivers believe, and the first lesson is often mostly reassurance. A few hours is common for someone shaking off rust; more if you're also learning London traffic for the first time, or rebuilding confidence after an incident.

Because it's pay-as-you-go, there's no reason to over-commit. Book one lesson, see where you are, and decide from there — your instructor will give you an honest view after the first drive. Small block bookings bring the rate down if it turns out you want several.

Nervous about driving again?

Say so when you book, and say so again in the car. Nerves after a break or an accident are completely normal and they're not a character flaw to be pushed through — the first session can be as gentle as a quiet residential street at a quiet time of day, with nothing on the plan beyond getting comfortable in the seat.

What we won't do is surprise you. Nobody gets taken onto a dual carriageway to prove a point, or into heavy traffic because the hour needs filling. You'll know what's coming next, we'll stop when you want to stop, and the pace is set by you. Refresher pupils who come back to driving slowly tend to stay driving, which is the actual goal.

Refresher Lessons — common questions

Yes — in your car or our dual-controlled one, whichever you prefer, and plenty of pupils start in ours and switch. If we use yours it needs to be taxed, insured and MOT'd, with insurance covering tuition by a third party, so it's worth checking your policy first.
