Before you apply
Who can become an instructor
To train as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), the DVSA asks that you:
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have held one for at least 4 of the past 6 years
- Have no more than 5 penalty points on your licence
- Not have been disqualified from driving in the last 4 years
- Pass an enhanced criminal-record (DBS) check — the DVSA requires a “fit and proper person”
- Meet the eyesight and physical standards to control a vehicle safely
We'll guide you through the DBS check and every step of the application.
